Detoxification Diet - The Facts Explored

Not long ago, I read a very interesting material about this Hollywood personality that has been into detoxification or detox diet for quite some time. Although she was not the first one to have tried it, she was one of the many people who joined the worldwide "Detox diet wave".

How do we define a detoxification diet?

A detoxification diet is a program designed to cleanse our bodies of surplus toxins and harmful substances that has been accumulated inside our bodies. This can be done in many ways, but can usually be accomplished by consuming organic foods, which helps the body eliminate these impurities from our body through our bowels.

The good thing about it

People who religiously follow a detoxification diet state a lot of improvements in their overall health, including weight loss, fairer skin, better functioning of organs and other body systems, and improvement in mental health too.

The bad thing about it

Detoxification diets don't have many of the bad stuff actually; in fact if there are even bad sides to it, the good sides outweigh them by a long shot. Still, it is necessary to remember that these types of diets cannot provide the right balance of nutrients our body needs. We can therefore say that a detox diet may deprive our bodies of important nutrients the longer we stay on it. And it is for this reason that a detoxification diet is not advised to be applied for a time longer than necessary.

What you need to eat

A good amount of fruits, vegetables, beans, oats, lentils, brown rice, potatoes, steamed fish, unprocessed nuts and seeds, herbal teas, fresh fruit juices and natural yoghurt are just some of the examples of good things to eat when under a detoxification diet.

What you should NOT eat

One must refrain from eating any form of red meats, chicken, dairy, butter or margarine, eggs, breads, wheat products, pasta, chocolates, pastries, white sugar, fast food, beer and alcohol, coffee, salty foods and other junk foods.

To make this an even better material, I will be including a one-day detoxification diet specialty recipe just for my readers!

DETOX BREAKFAST

Breakfast fruit smoothie

Ingredients: Orange, Pear, Apple, Plum, Kiwi

Just add the fruits in a blender or any food processor and that's it! You can also add some ice if you want a chilled version or if it tastes a bit too sour.

It is also important to note that some people may not be able to tolerate the acidity of citrus fruits so you could substitute them with other fruits like strawberries or pears.

DETOX LUNCH

Green Gaia

Ingredients: Steamed broccoli, sesame seeds, lemon juice, brown rice

Mix the sesame seeds with the broccoli and steam it for just a few minutes. Once done, remove the sees from the lemon and squeeze some juice over the broccoli and top it over the brown rice.

DETOX SNACK

The Popeye Solution

Ingredients: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Carrots, Onion, Garlic, Spinach, Bay Leaves, Celery, Water

Saut garlic, onion and bay leaves in olive oil, add water and allow mixture to boil for one hour. Add spinach and leave until cooked.

DETOX DINNER

Messy Healthy

Ingredients: Mixed greens, artichoke, red pepper, sprouts, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil

To make a wholesome and healthy green salad, just mix the ingredients in a bowl. You can also add multivitamin supplements for better detoxification results.

In order to have the overall balance that our body needs, patience and moderation in everything we eat is a must. Cheers to you for a great detoxification program and may you experience all the benefits that detoxification offers.
